THE MOMENT
Gen Z began their Financial Literacy Journey Later Than ANY GENERATION.
In an era defined by rapid digital transformation and an overwhelming influx of financial information, Gen Z stands at a crossroads. Despite being digital natives, this generation faces unique financial challenges, primarily due to a lack of tailored financial education that aligns with their tech-savvy nature and dynamic lifestyle. Traditional financial advice often falls short in meeting their preferences for fast, personalized, and mobile-first solutions, leaving a gap in effective tools for financial literacy and planning.
THE CHALLENGES

DISCOVER
Through extensive secondary research on the the current financial services market and socialeconomic factors influencing each generation’s view on money, I delved into Gen Z’s financial approach, planning methods, attitude towards money, digital interactions, and thoughts about future of finances. Interview excerpts
He’s keen to invest but unsure where to start.
He enjoys living in the moment, often spending on “wants”. He fears missing out and tends to spend impulsively.
He spend mostly on mood or convenience, while small money like a uber trip can pile up to couple hundred collars each month.
He’s also concerned about maintaining his lifestyle post-graduation.

word cloud: gen z’s feeling toward long-term financial planning
Key Inisghts: - Gen Z stands in a unique position, lacking the entrepreneurial opportunities of their parents and the early exposure to finance and technology of younger generations
- Persona development revealed that Gen Zers, like Matt, are eager to invest but unsure where to start, often spending impulsively on “wants” and convenience.
- Gen Z primarily seeks financial planning knowledge online, but current offerings have limitations such as dependence on self-motivation, limited personalization, minimum account requirements, and engagement challenges
In conclusion, Gen Z lacks the money to invest, they want personalized investment guidance, and they love convenience.
Design/ideation
Drawn from these insights, I aim to create a solution that target the daunting search process.
Inspired by AI-powered search engines like Arc, I propose an AI-driven platform that curates personalized “Best Practices” lists for users’ finances based on their current stage, lifestyle, and goals. By leveraging advanced algorithms and natural language processing, the platform guides users through tailored tutorials and advice on maximizing their savings effectively. It provides simple yet essential tips that are often buried in the vast ocean of online information, such as how much income to allocate towards savings.
Here’s a simple illustration that describe the process:
Key Features:
- Personalized onboarding process to gather user's financial data, goals, and preferences securely.
- AI-powered analysis of user's financial health and spending habits.
- Curated, bite-sized content on budgeting, saving, investing, and financial planning.
- Engaging, mobile-first UI/UX designed for Gen Z's digital preferences.
